Nasir Isa Kwarra

Nasir Isa Kwarra is the current Chairman of the National Population Commission of Nigeria (NPC). He was appointed by the immediate past President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and assumed the leadership of the Commission on 28th October 2020.

Kwarra holds a Master degree in Economics from the University of Jos. He has served the government of Nigeria in various capacities across many sectors, before his current appointment and he is leading the process for the conduct of the first ever digital population and housing census in Nigeria.

The Chairman presides over the largest National Population Commission in Africa. An agency of the government saddled with several statutory responsibilities – to generate data for national development planning/guide policies decisions through periodic censuses and surveys; coordinates implementation of all population and development activities in Nigeria; coordinates the formulation and implementation of the National Policy on Population for Sustainable Development including the implementation of the Demographic Dividend Agenda; is advisory to the President and Government of Nigeria on population and development matters; handles Civil Registration & Vital Statistics including migration; generates Cartographic information/remote sensing products (national frame), that ease the conduct of surveys, research and detailed enumeration of the country during a census as well as geo-spatial data/information with location component; among others.
