Ashraf Badr

Dr Ashraf Badr is the founder and chairman of the Yamaan Foundation, which he began in 2009 and was the Country Director for Marie Stopes Yemen from 2010 till end of 2021.

He is a pharmacist by background but also holds a master’s degree in business administration. He has more than 23 years’ experience in marketing and management, 17 years’ experience with Marie Stopes International, and considerable expertise in project management, social marketing and output based aid through the voucher management programe.

Through his various social marketing projects, he gained experience in behaviour change communication, community mobilisation, and advocacy. He has solid experience in health financing and output based aid through various interventions like the voucher management, result based financing and rebuilding health system in fragile settings. This has enabled him to develop Yamaan into Yemen’s foremost NGO specialized in health , and drive the growth and success of Marie Stopes Yemen as the country’s leading sexual and reproductive health service provider.

He is a strong advocate for sexual reproductive health and rights in Yemen and the region, and have played a key leadership role in developing and managing health programmes in Yemen, in both the private and public sectors
