Farouk Shamas Jiwa

Farouk Shamas Jiwa leads the MENAT region team responsible for policy, communications, market access and pricing.


His role includes strategic partnerships with stakeholders, MENAT’s brand and reputation, tender bids, pricing initiatives, and value demonstration and affordability efforts.


These functions play an integrated and integral role to advance business leadership and positioning the company across the region. 


Prior to this role, he led the EEMEA region’s strategic vaccine policy engagement efforts for MSD through the development and implementation of a region-wide strategy and programmeactivities in line with regional priorities.

 

His leadership includes advancing the region’s policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and partnerships that have discernable public health and patient impact. 


Farouk’s experience over the last 20 years has involved organizations and activities in the private, PPP, non-profit, and public sectors including Gavi, AMREF Health Africa, the Prime Ministers Department in Ottawa, and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).  His advocacy and policy engagement work in global health, international development, and foreign policy have been recognized by (amongst others) the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation’s Global Fellowship, and the Banff Forum in Canada.


Farouk received his graduate degrees from Harvard and Cambridge universities and completed his undergraduate education at McGill.  


Farouk also holds a Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from INSEAD.
